On aft Deck 8, the Summer Landing features the Heroes Tribute Bar, which is dedicated to veterans and their families. An especially nice touch here is a glass case where guests can bring medals and other service mementos to be displayed during the cruise to celebrate their loved ones. Like its counterpart on the Mardi Gras, Heroes has a complimentary soft serve ice cream dispenser (one of several on board) that is set up in a military truck facade. The baristas here are especially friendly and work quickly but a line is almost always guaranteed, especially during morning hours, so plan accordingly. Directly across from Heroes, Guy’s Pig and Anchor Smokehouse and Brewhouse is another Guy Fieri-sponsored dining venue offering up for charge barbecue fare and specialty craft brews. When the ship is at sea, this place is packed and in the evenings, it is also a popular spot for live bands. Kids and adults who aren't afraid of heights will enjoy the top-deck ropes course, which offers two options for different levels of skill and bravery.

On Carnival Jubilee, it's adorned in neutral tans, dark browns and red tones. During my visit, I ordered a pound of stone crab claws in garlic butter (market price) with red beans and rice ($3) and a brie bowl ($6). My only complaint is that, apart from a claw cracker, there were no other tools available to get to the crab meat. (I asked.) My waiter had no bibs or wet wipes to offer, which left me a bit messy afterward. Also on Deck 8 are Coastal Slice and neighboring Beach Buns, which respectively replace the pizza and deli counters found by the pool on most other Carnival ships.

Celebrity Ascent and Icon of the Seas had the best entertainment across the board, with Royal Caribbean’s newest ship leaving me the most impressed. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment on all four of these ships. I was least impressed with the entertainment on Norwegian Viva, although Beetlejuice was fantastic.
Because of this, Celebrity Ascent was meticulously crafted with obvious attention to detail. The entire ship is a work of art that will take your breath away with beautifully designed eateries, lounges, and accommodations. Every corner of the ship feels thoughtfully curated with a special emphasis on outdoor space. The ship also has an expanded luxury retail space, where guests can indulge in the products of Piaget, Cartier, Bvlgari. The vessel, along with sisters Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, was designed as a throwback to the ship of the same name, which sailed for Carnival Cruise Line from 1986 to 2004. At the time of publication, Carnival Jubilee, the third ship in Carnival's Excel class, was still under construction and set to be delivered to Carnival in 2023.
